JAKARTA (JP): The authorities have dismantled 988 billboards throughout the city during operations last month.
Most of the billboards found bearing foreign language, head of the operation team, Supendi, said on Thursday.
The team members, consisting employers of city revenue and city public order offices, also pulled down billboards whose permits had been expired.
According to Supendi, from 176 of the dismantled billboards located in Central Jakarta, 278 in South Jakarta, 166 in West Jakarta, 288 in East Jakarta and 98 in North Jakarta.
"Thirty-five billboard owners have agreed to use Bhs. Indonesia in their billboards," he said.
The team has also dismantled 518 commercial banners.
Meanwhile, the public order office had received residents' complaints about a massage parlor in West Jakarta and a factory in East Jakarta.

He said Tambora residents said the traditional massage parlor had become an illicit prostitution center.
The residents of Pondok Kelapa had complained about bad smell in their neighborhood due to the factory's waste. The residents said the factory dumped the waste into local waterways.
"Our staff found that the residents' reports are true," Jornal said.
He said the governor was expected to sign the letters to revoke the message parlor and the factory soon. (yns)
