The weekend is one of the most anticipated moments during the school holiday season. At many stations, the atmosphere of families with children, small suitcases, and travel provisions adds warmth to public mobility. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has recorded sustained high customer enthusiasm for train travel, including through the 30 per cent transport discount programme for the 2026 school holiday period.

Based on KAI data as of 27 June 2026 at 10.00 WIB, a total of 987,851 discounted transport tickets had been booked by customers for the departure period from 20 June to 5 July 2026. This figure is equivalent to 84.10 per cent of the total quota of 1,174,624 seats. With this achievement, 186,773 seats remain available for the public to plan school holiday trips with their families.

Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, said the school holidays provide space for families to enjoy time together, visit hometowns, and introduce children to the experience of travelling by train. According to her, the high number of discounted ticket bookings shows that trains remain the public’s choice because of scheduled, comfortable journeys that reach many cities.

“This Saturday, many families are already travelling, while other customers are beginning to prepare for departures this weekend and next week. KAI encourages the public to utilise the remaining discounted seats by planning journeys early, selecting suitable dates, and ensuring all travel data is correct before departure,” said Anne.

Customer enthusiasm is evident from the distribution of discounted ticket volumes by departure date. On 26 June 2026, the discounted ticket volume was recorded at 85,397 customers. Entering Saturday, 27 June 2026, the volume reached 82,809 customers, followed by Sunday, 28 June 2026, with 76,685 customers. Previously, the opening weekend of the school holidays was also high, with 77,505 customers on 20 June and 82,061 customers on 21 June 2026.

Beyond the discount programme, customer mobility during the school holiday period also shows broad movement. Based on monitoring of customer volumes for the period 20 June to 5 July 2026, updated on 26 June at 10.00 WIB, the total number of customers recorded reached 2,278,245. This figure consists of 924,105 discounted transport customers and 1,354,140 regular customers.

The data shows that school holiday travel is spread across many dates. The highest total customer count was recorded on Sunday, 21 June 2026, with 222,965 customers. Movement was also strong on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, with 198,548 customers; Wednesday, 1 July 2026, with 198,110 customers; Saturday, 20 June 2026, with 197,979 customers; and Monday, 22 June 2026, with 191,638 customers.

In the transport discount programme, Pasar Senen Station was the departure station with the highest volume, at 117,048 customers. This was followed by Yogyakarta Station with 69,721 customers, Semarang Tawang Bank Jateng Station with 46,881 customers, Semarang Poncol Station with 43,667 customers, and Lempuyangan Station with 39,134 customers. In terms of destinations, Pasar Senen Station was also recorded as the highest with 108,887 customers, followed by Yogyakarta Station with 73,007 customers, Semarang Tawang Bank Jateng Station with 45,837 customers, Semarang Poncol Station with 42,317 customers, and Solo Balapan Station with 39,826 customers.

A number of routes also became the main choices for customers during the discount period. The Lempuyangan–Pasar Senen route recorded 16,144 customers, Pasar Senen–Lempuyangan 15,945 customers, Pasar Senen–Yogyakarta 13,711 customers, Semarang Tawang Bank Jateng–Solo Balapan 11,690 customers, and Surabaya Gubeng–Yogyakarta 11,517 customers. This pattern shows that the school holidays are driving family travel, tourism, and intercity visits across various regions.

In terms of train services, the highest volume in the transport discount programme was recorded on the KA Joglosemar Kerto with 50,276 customers. This was followed by the KA Ambarawa Ekspres with 44,845 customers, KA Pangrango with 39,438 customers, KA Sawunggalih with 34,864 customers, and KA Jayakarta with 31,159 customers. This distribution shows that customer interest is not concentrated on a single line but is spread across various intercity and agglomeration journeys.

Anne added that KAI continues to urge customers to prepare for their journeys in an orderly manner from home. Customers are expected to arrive at the station early, bring sufficient luggage, supervise children while in the station area, and follow officers’ instructions when boarding and alighting from trains.

“School holidays always bring family stories. Therefore, KAI wants customers’ journeys to be calm from arrival at the station until reaching the destination city. Safety remains the priority, so we invite customers to maintain order, pay attention to their belongings, and give space to customers who need it more,” said Anne.

KAI also encourages members of the public who are still arranging their holiday plans to check ticket availability regularly through Access by KAI and KAI’s official ticket sales channels. With good planning, weekend and school holiday travel can be more comfortable, orderly, and enjoyable for all customers.
