One of the initiators of the 98 Resolution Network, Wignyo Prasetyo, has called for the death penalty for corruptors of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme. He stated that corruption within the MBG programme should be categorised as an extraordinary crime.

“The criminal act of corruption in the MBG programme can be categorised as an extraordinary crime with large-scale impacts, because it has robbed the basic rights of the people and children who need access to nutritious food,” Wignyo said in a press statement in Jakarta on Monday (29/6/2026).

He explained that the perpetrators of MBG corruption have closed off the future of the nation’s generation. Therefore, according to Wignyo, they deserve the death penalty.

“This MBG programme is intended to improve the nutrition of our children, so that a healthy, strong, and intelligent generation can be created. They have robbed this path. Therefore, the criminal act of MBG corruption can be categorised as an extraordinary violation, and the perpetrators deserve the death penalty,” he stated.

Wignyo added that, besides being an extraordinary crime, the death penalty serves as a stern warning that corruption in social programmes cannot be tolerated. “Besides the fact that MBG corruption is an extraordinary crime, the death penalty is imposed as a stern warning that corruption in social programmes, including the corruption of children’s nutrition, cannot be tolerated,” he said.
