98 Resolution Network Discusses Silent Forces Recycling the August 2025 Protest Ahead of August 2026 Action
The initiator of the 98 Resolution Network, Haris Rusly Moti, has assessed that the demonstration agenda on 27 August 2026 in Jakarta concerning the eradication of corruption is in line with the policy direction of President Prabowo Subianto. Haris suspects there are silent forces recycling the August 2025 action ahead of the latest protest.
“In fact, the mass action on 27 August 2026 demanding the eradication of corruption and the seizure of corruptors’ assets is still in line with the policy direction and determination of President Prabowo,” Haris told journalists on Wednesday (26/8/2026).
According to Haris, Prabowo has taken very fundamental action that goes beyond the demands of the mass movement, preventing leakage of state wealth and seizing assets from corruption involving mining, forest and land oligarchs.
“President Prabowo himself has not turned a blind eye or a deaf ear to the aspirations developing in society. This is proven by his firm action against perpetrators of MBG corruption and law enforcement officials who abused their authority to enrich themselves,” Haris explained.
Through the new leadership, Haris assessed that the governance of MBG, which has been criticised by a number of parties, is currently undergoing very significant gradual improvement.
However, Haris considered the choice of the 27 August 2026 action date to be highly provocative. According to Haris, there are silent forces obsessed with recycling the August 2025 action, which left sorrow over the death of online motorcycle taxi driver Affan Kurniawan, as well as riots and looting of the homes of a number of officials.
“There are symptoms of political hallucination among a handful of silent forces who are launching a campaign of social chaos by piggybacking on the mass movement. They want to create a crisis of trust and delegitimise the progressive and populist policies of President Prabowo,” asserted Haris, who was once the Commander of Volunteers for the Prabowo-Gibran National Campaign Team.
Haris suspects that the one-year anniversary of Affan Kurniawan’s death is being deliberately exploited to provoke the anger of online motorcycle taxi drivers and the wider public into committing social disobedience.
“However, we are confident that our friends in the online motorcycle taxi driver community will not be provoked. Because both the Indonesian House of Representatives and the Prabowo administration have accommodated the demands of our online motorcycle taxi driver friends. In fact, the Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, has on several occasions received and directly listened to the aspirations of delegations from the online motorcycle taxi driver community,” Haris continued.
On this occasion, Haris highlighted the technique of ‘information laundering’, namely the washing and recycling of disinformation used to spread incitement and provocation to the public. Haris suspects that these silent forces are working using this technique to heat up the situation ahead of the mass action on 27 August 2026.
According to Haris, the ‘information laundering’ technique is a process whereby disinformation or fake news orchestrated massively on social media accounts is washed so that it appears credible, by being disseminated through mainstream media channels.
“Disinformation and fake news are the content itself, whereas information laundering is the technique used to legitimise disinformation and fake news content so that it appears to be the truth,” explained Haris, who is a 1998 activist from Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta.
According to Haris, without the information laundering technique, disinformation and hoaxes move in a limited way within marginal spaces on social media accounts.
“If we examine it closely, information laundering has been used as a technique in psychological warfare, with the aim of collapsing public trust and market confidence in the government,” said Haris.
“Such movements are actually part of a series of destabilisation campaigns that have been launched in recent months,” Haris continued.
However, according to Haris, the destabilisation campaign being launched is like a lovelorn owl longing for the moon. Because the obsession of a number of economic experts who projected that the rupiah would collapse to Rp 25,000 against the US dollar has in fact been reversed, with the rupiah and the Jakarta Composite Index gradually strengthening.
In addition, according to Haris, Prabowo’s speech on 14 August 2026 before the People’s Consultative Assembly, the House of Representatives and the Regional Representatives Council presented data on the achievements of the government’s programmes during two years in office. However, Haris did not deny the fact that many of the people’s problems remain unresolved.
“We need cooperation and togetherness to overcome the people’s problems. For us, the people’s social movement is a critical partner of the government in protecting its policies from abuse,” Haris concluded.
