95 Personnel Deployed to Extinguish Warehouse Fire in Kalideres

The West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Sudin Gulkarmat) deployed 19 fire engine units and 95 personnel to extinguish a fire that broke out in a warehouse on Jalan Satu Maret, Prepedan, Kalideres, on Friday afternoon.

The Head of Operations for the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service, Syaiful Kahfi, confirmed that officers were still working to extinguish the fire on the upper levels of the warehouse.

“We received a report from the public via telephone at 5:16 PM WIB. I do not yet know what type of warehouse it is. Officers from the Kalideres Sector Office immediately moved to the location and arrived at the scene at 5:23 PM WIB,” Syaiful stated in Jakarta on Friday.

Due to the presence of highly flammable materials inside the warehouse, the fire department continued to increase reinforcements to localise the spread of the flames.

As of Friday evening, joint task forces were still struggling on the ground to control the situation, which remained at a high-alert ‘red’ status.

“Currently, the situation is still in the process of being extinguished (red status). Officers on the ground are still attempting to localise the fire to prevent it from spreading to other buildings,” said Syaiful.

Footage obtained by ANTARA showed the firefighting efforts involving one heavy machinery unit equipped with a hydraulic arm, or skylift, to ensure water spraying could reach the upper parts of the burning warehouse. Thick black smoke was seen billowing high into the air.

According to preliminary data, no fatalities or injuries have been reported in this incident.

Furthermore, the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service has not yet been able to confirm the suspected cause of the fire or the estimated material losses resulting from the incident.
