95 Personnel Deployed to Extinguish Warehouse Fire in Kalideres

The West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Sudin Gulkarmat) deployed 19 fire engines and 95 personnel to extinguish a fire that engulfed a warehouse on Jalan Satu Maret, Prepedan, Kalideres, on Friday afternoon. Head of Operations for West Jakarta Gulkarmat, Syaiful Kahfi, confirmed that crews were still working to suppress the flames in the upper part of the warehouse. “We received a report from the public via telephone at 5.16 pm Western Indonesia Time. I do not yet know what kind of warehouse it is. Personnel from the Kalideres Sector Office immediately moved to the location and arrived at the scene at 5.23 pm,” Syaiful said. Given the combustible materials stored inside the warehouse, the fire service continued to reinforce its presence to localise the spread of the fire. As of Friday evening, combined teams were still battling the blaze, which remained at a red status. “The situation is still in the extinguishing process (red). Officers on the ground are still trying to localise the fire so it does not spread to other buildings,” Syaiful stated. Video footage showed the operation involving a heavy vehicle unit with a hydraulic arm, or skylift, to direct water onto the upper sections of the burning warehouse, while thick black smoke billowed high into the air. Initial data indicated no fatalities or injuries in the incident. West Jakarta Gulkarmat has also not yet been able to confirm the suspected cause of the fire or estimate the material losses resulting from the incident.
