95 Percent of Livestock in Gaza Destroyed, Indonesian Muslims Urged to Perform Qurban for Palestine

Humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip is increasingly dire. The Palestinian territory continues to feel the brutality of the genocide carried out by Israel, worsening a decades-long occupation suffered by its people. The Indonesian philanthropic organisation Qudwah Indonesia revealed that the food crisis in the Gaza Strip has not abated. Ahead of Eid al-Adha 1447 AH / 2026 CE, around 95 percent of the total number of livestock in the area have been destroyed. Yet, that festival is supposed to be a time when residents could access more animal protein. In response, Qudwah Indonesia calls on Muslims to reinforce humanitarian solidarity through the ‘Qurban Strengthening 2026’ programme. It is focused on assisting people in crisis areas, especially in the Gaza Strip. Qudwah Indonesia’s President Director Lukman Hakim said the ‘Qurban Strengthening’ programme aims to foster collaborative spirit and to bring the benefits of qurban to those in need. ‘Qurban is not only a personal act of worship, but also a form of solidarity and a strengthening of hope for our brothers and sisters who are suffering,’ said Lukman Hakim in a written statement on Wednesday (20 May 2026). Meanwhile humanitarian activist Amar Ar-Risalah revealed that the destruction of the livestock sector in Gaza has a major impact on the community’s food availability. ‘95 percent of Gaza’s livestock have been destroyed as a result of the war,’ he said. According to Amar, this leaves Gaza residents in dire need of food assistance, especially meat that can support nutrition for children, pregnant women, and injury victims. ‘Protein needs in Gaza are very high,’ he said.
