JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded ticket sales for the 2026 Lebaran holiday period reaching 4.1 million tickets, precisely 4,195,627 tickets, as of 24 March 2026 at 10:00 WIB. This figure equates to 93.3% of the total 4,498,696 seats provided during the period from 11 March to 1 April 2026. KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, stated that the trend of rail travel has continued to rise since mid-March, now entering the return flow phase. “The public utilises trains because they are more comfortable and on schedule,” Anne said in an official statement on Tuesday (24/3/2026). For long-distance train services, ticket sales have even surpassed capacity, reaching 3,616,273 tickets or 101.2% of the total 3,571,760 seats provided. Meanwhile, local train ticket sales were recorded at 579,354 tickets or 62.5% of the total 926,936 seats. Anne explained that sales figures exceeding 100% are possible due to passengers’ travel patterns that do not always cover the full route from the starting station to the end. During the Lebaran transport period from 11 to 23 March 2026, KAI served a total of 2,820,174 passengers on Java and Sumatra, comprising 2,378,680 long-distance train passengers and 441,494 local train passengers. This increase in mobility is reflected in the daily passenger volume, which continues to rise. On 22 March, the number of long-distance train passengers reached 242,773 people with an occupancy rate of 150.7%, then on 23 March it became 246,987 passengers with 154.1% occupancy. KAI noted that the high travel volume during the return flow is also influenced by the public’s pattern of mudik after performing Eid al-Fitr prayers in their places of work. Amid the high demand, several trains with the highest booking rates during the 2026 Lebaran transport period include KA Airlangga, KA Joglosemarkerto, KA Sri Tanjung, KA Bengawan, KA Kahuripan, KA Rajabasa, and KA Jayakarta. Nevertheless, the public still has opportunities to obtain return flow tickets through alternative routes, different departure schedules, or connecting train travel schemes.
