9,250 officials to guard election

PAMEKASAN, East Java: Pamekasan regency administration has
mobilized 9,250 personnel from local companies to act as security
officials for the general election due next year.

"We have asked every company here to send us 10 percent of its
workers to help safeguard the election," head of the regency's
civil defense corps Maj. Soedijono was quoted by Antara as saying
on Monday.

This is twice as many as the 6,500 officials who were needed
for the 1992 election. (31)
