923 Schools in NTT Shift to Home Learning After Earthquake

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has recorded that 923 schools in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) are implementing home learning due to the ongoing earthquake. The ministry has prepared 100 emergency classrooms that will begin to be used next week.

“It has been reported that 923 educational units are implementing home learning, 171 are conducting online learning, 35 schools are studying in emergency classrooms, and 30 schools are still holding face-to-face lessons,” said Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Atip Latipulhayat during a press conference broadcast on BNPB’s YouTube channel on Thursday (20/8/2026).

Atip said the ministry is also distributing various forms of assistance, including 4,500 children’s gift packages, basic food packages, 810 school kits, and 400 family kits.

The ministry is currently distributing 100 tents to be used as emergency classrooms. The tents are targeted to begin being used for teaching and learning activities next week.

“The preparation of emergency classrooms is being carried out in stages for severely damaged schools. We are currently distributing 100 classroom tents which are expected to begin being used for children’s learning next week,” he explained.

The ministry has also issued guidance for learning in emergency situations. He said the guidance provides flexibility in learning modes and materials.

“We also hope for collaboration and support from all stakeholders to accelerate the provision of education in emergency situations,” he said.
