92 percent of Indonesian knowledge workers use generative AI: govt
“Based on the Work Trend Index 2024 published by Microsoft and LinkedIn, 92 percent of knowledge workers in Indonesia have used generative AI in their daily work,” Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria remarked at the Garuda AI Impact Summit 2026 here on Thursday.
According to him, this high adoption rate positions Indonesia above the global average and indicates that the country has transitioned from a passive spectator into an active participant in the global technological revolution.
Nezar attributed this rapid integration largely to a significant decline in the cost of utilizing AI, which plummeted more than 280-fold between 2022 and 2024.
“AI, which used to be expensive, is now accessible to everyone,” he stated, adding that the technology has successfully transitioned from an experimental phase into mainstream social and economic sectors.
Citing the AI Index Report, he pointed out that generative AI achieved a 53 percent population adoption rate globally within just three years - far outpacing the historical adoption speeds of both personal computers and the early internet.
Furthermore, the report showed that 88 percent of organizations have now adopted AI across various operational activities.
Despite the promising figures, the deputy minister cautioned that rapid adoption must be balanced with concerted efforts to ensure equitable access and to enhance the public’s capacity to utilize the technology productively.
He warned that the primary challenge of future digital transformation is no longer just connecting people to the internet, but bridging a new kind of digital divide.
“The future gap will not only be between those who are connected and those who are not, but between those who are able to use AI productively and those who are left behind in the transformation,” Nezar stated.
Concluding his remarks, he reiterated that the Indonesian government remains committed to fostering local digital talent and boosting AI literacy so the benefits of the technology can be distributed equitably across all levels of society.
