91 officers promoted in ABRI reshuffles

JAKARTA (JP): Ninety-one high-ranking military officers from
the Army, Navy, Air Force and Police were promoted yesterday as
part of the ongoing reshuffle in the Armed Forces leadership.

ABRI Commander Gen. Feisal Tanjung received the report on the
promotions in a modest ceremony at the Armed Forces headquarters
in Cilangkap, East Jakarta.

Chief of ABRI's General Affairs, Soeyono, Chief of ABRI's
Socio-political Affairs, Ma'ruf, and Deputy Army Chief, FX
Soedjasmin were promoted from major general to lieutenant
general.

Soeyono and Ma'ruf recently replaced Lt. Gen. HBL Mantiri, who
has reached his retirement age, and Gen. R. Hartono, who was
recently appointed Army chief, respectively.

Soedjasmin took off his hat as army inspector general and
assumed his new post as deputy Army chief on Monday, replacing
Lt. Gen. Soerjadi.

Army officers promoted from brigadier general to major general
were Soelatin, M. Yusuf Katanegara, Imam Utomo, Namuri Anum S.,
Tayo Tarmadi, ABRI chief spokesman Syarwan Hamid and Ruswandi, an
expert staff at the National Resilience Institute.

Soelatin will be appointed as chief of the Wirabuana Military
Command in charge of security in Sulawesi replacing Maj. Gen.
Tamlicha Ali, who has been appointed as assistant to the chief of
ABRI's general affairs.

Kartanegara will be chief of the Diponegoro Command,
supervising Central Java and Yogyakarta, while Imam Utomo is to
be chief of the Brawijaya Command, replacing Maj. Gen. Haris
Sudarno.

Namuri will be named chief of the Wirabuana Command replacing
Maj. Gen. Yocob Dasto. Tarmadi is to be appointed chief of the
Siliwangi Command replacing Muzani Syukur, who was recently
appointed as Army inspector general, and Syarwan will be
assistant to ABRI's chief of socio-political affairs.

Navy officers promoted from commodore to rear admiral were the
Governor of the Navy Academy, Abu Hanifah, and Commander of the
Navy's Western Fleet, Widodo AS.

Air Force officers promoted from commodore to rear marshal
were commander of the National Air Defense Command, Irawan Saleh,
and Governor of the Air Force Academy, Holky BK.

Police officers who received promotions from brigadier general
to major general were Governor of the Police Academy, Momo
Kelana, and coordinator of expert staff of national police chief,
Dr. Hadiman.

Among those who received promotions from colonel to brigadier
general in the Army were Col. Muchlis, Col. Rivai, Col. Makmun
Rasyid, Col. Zacky Anwar, Col. Nurdin Yusuf, Col. Luhut
Panjaitan, Makarim Siradjudin P. and Deputy ABRI spokesman Hardi
Karso.

Muchlis will be appointed assistant to the Army chief on
personnel affairs and Rivai will be inducted as chief of the
Army's infantry weaponry department.

Rasyid will be assistant to Army chief of logistic affairs
while Zacky will be appointed director in ABRI's Intelligence
Agency. Nurdin will be appointed chief of the Jakarta military
garrison and Luhut as deputy chief of Army's infantry weaponry
department.

Those promoted from colonel to major general in the National
Police included the deputy chief of Central Java provincial
police, Suwito, and Director of the National Police's School for
Senior Officers, M. Nurdin.

Those promoted from colonel to commodore in the Navy and Air
Force were chief of the Navy Western Fleet's Battle Unit, Bernard
KS, commander of the Surabaya naval base, Frits A.C. Mantiri, and
deputy chief of the Air Force's higher school, Abdullah Syirat.

Feisal said the reshuffle was needed to improve ABRI's
capability in safeguarding national development in the next five
years. "We are committed to developing an efficient, effective,
professional and modern ABRI which is able to meet all challenges
