91 Malaysians Missing Amid Flash Floods in Nepal and China

A total of 91 Malaysians along the Nepal-China border cannot be reached or have lost contact amid the flood disaster. Of that number, 55 lost contact in Nepal and 36 others lost contact in China.

This was conveyed by Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra). The data is as of Saturday at 8.00 pm Malaysian time.

Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry stated that it continues to work with the authorities in China and Nepal, as well as conduct cross-verification of information from both countries to identify possible duplication in the reports received. The public is asked to refer to the official figures issued by Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in reporting on Malaysian citizens affected by the situation in Nepal and China.

Wisma Putra said the figures will continue to be updated when communication is successfully established with Malaysian citizens who still cannot be reached, and when further information is received from the authorities and family members.

In accordance with consular procedures, Malaysian authorities also emphasised that developments regarding individual cases are conveyed directly to verified next of kin.

Malaysian consular officials have contacted identified next of kin based on available information to provide the latest developments.

Wisma Putra stressed that personal information will not be disclosed to the public without permission from the next of kin.
