90 Indonesian Students to Pursue Master's Degrees Through EU Scholarship Programme

A total of 90 Indonesian students will pursue master’s degrees through the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s (EMJM) programme in the 2026 academic year, with 78 of them receiving full scholarships from the European Union. The remaining students are receiving financial support from host universities, partner institutions, or the private sector.

EU Ambassador to Indonesia, Denis Chaibi, stated that the EU is proud to invest in Indonesia’s future through the Erasmus+ programme. “These scholarship recipients will build knowledge, international experience, and lasting networks, while strengthening the relationship between Indonesia and Europe,” he said.

The EMJM programme allows students to study at multiple universities across EU member states and partner countries, combining high-quality education, cross-border academic mobility, and cultural exchange.

Chaibi added that higher education is a key pillar of the EU’s Global Gateway strategy, which focuses on strengthening innovation and skills development to support the green and digital transformation. He noted that through Erasmus+, the EU continues to reinforce its support for education, youth empowerment, and international academic cooperation.

Representing this year’s scholarship recipients, Almira Rahma, a participant in the Copernicus Master in Digital Earth programme, said the Erasmus Mundus scholarship not only provides financial support for education but also opens opportunities for academic, professional, and personal development. “We come from different backgrounds and fields of study, but we share the same goal: to keep learning, contribute, and bring honour to Indonesia on the global stage,” she said. Almira is an employee of the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) from Samarinda, East Kalimantan.

On the same occasion, the EU also launched the EU Youth Alumni Circle Indonesia, a platform designed to strengthen the network of alumni from various EU cooperation programmes. Through this platform, alumni are expected to expand collaboration, share experiences, and develop initiatives that support relations between the EU and its partner countries, including Indonesia.
