A total of 90 personnel from the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-department (Sudin Gulkarmat) handled a fire that struck a residential house on Jalan Pisangan Baru Tengah 1, Matraman.

“We deployed 18 units with a strength of 90 personnel to extinguish the fire at a residential house owned by Sajali on Jalan Pisangan Baru Tengah 1, RT 7/RW 2, Number 19, Pisangan Baru,” said Head of Operations Section of the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-department Abdul Wahid in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He said his office received a report of the fire from a resident at around 5.10 a.m. Western Indonesia Time.

Officers then immediately headed to the location to control the flames that engulfed the approximately 200-square-metre residential house.

Abdul said the incident began when the homeowner woke up and suddenly saw fire coming from an upstairs bedroom.

“When he woke up, flames were suddenly visible from the upstairs bedroom. An attempt to extinguish the fire using a light fire extinguisher (APAR) had been made, but it was not resolved, so residents then reported it to the fire department,” Abdul explained.

Officers arrived at the fire location at 5.23 a.m. Western Indonesia Time and began the extinguishing process at around 5.24 a.m.

“Officers immediately worked to control the fire while preventing the flames from spreading to nearby buildings,” Abdul said.

The fire was localised at 6.00 a.m. Western Indonesia Time. After the fire was brought under control, officers continued handling with a cooling process starting at 6.20 a.m.

After the entire handling process was completed, the extinguishing operation was declared over at 7.30 a.m. Western Indonesia Time.

In the fire, five families or 15 people were rescued. There were no reports of casualties in the handling information provided by the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-department.

“The value of losses due to the fire is still being calculated,” Abdul said.

After the fire was confirmed extinguished and the location was safe, the firefighting operation was declared complete at 7.30 a.m. Western Indonesia Time.
