Sleman Regency is set to introduce a new tourist attraction: a cable car in the Prambanan area. The privately funded project will span approximately 8 kilometres, connecting popular tourist sites in the Prambanan hill region, including Tebing Breksi and Candi Ijo. The Sleman Regency government is currently assisting with the permitting process for the Rp200 billion tourism project. Triana Wahyuningsih, Head of Sleman Regency’s Investment and One-Stop Service Agency (DPMPTSP), stated that the cable car concept originated entirely from private investors. She added that the cable car is projected to become a new tourism attraction in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) and is reportedly set to be Indonesia’s first such attraction. The cable car route is designed to pass through several iconic tourist sites in the Prambanan area. It will start at Candi Banyunibo, proceed to other points such as Candi Miri and Tebing Breksi, before returning near Candi Ijo. “The route is approximately 8 kilometres long, starting from Candi Banyunibo, passing through Candi Miri and Tebing Breksi, before returning near Candi Ijo,” she said. According to Triana, investors have allocated approximately Rp200 billion for the project. “Information from the investors is around Rp200 billion for the cable car project,” she added.
