Jakarta — The Head of the Indonesian Police’s Security Maintenance Agency (Kabaharkam), Police Commissioner General Karyoto, stated that 89,228 personnel have been deployed in Operation Ketupat 2026 to ensure smooth and secure travel for communities celebrating Eid al-Fitr 1446 Hijriah.

“Operation Ketupat, codenamed Ketupat 2026, will be conducted over 13 days, starting 13 March and ending 25 March 2026. The total number of police personnel deployed is 89,228,” Karyoto said during a hearing session with Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives at the Parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

He explained that Operation Ketupat is a centralised police operation aimed at maintaining security, order, and smooth flow of traffic during the Lebaran exodus period, both during the outbound journey and return.

The operation is implemented to guarantee public security whilst carrying out fasting worship and celebrating Eid al-Fitr, reduce crime rates, and achieve security, safety, order, and smooth traffic flow.

“This operation also aims to ensure that communities can celebrate Lebaran safely, comfortably, and in an orderly manner both during travel and upon arrival at their destinations with various activities,” Karyoto added.

In addition to police personnel, the operation is assisted by the military, the Department of Transportation, the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), and other relevant agencies. Personnel are deployed to secure major routes, terminals, stations, ports, airports, and other crowded centres.

“Security and service posts are established at various strategic points to provide assistance to travellers. Additionally, traffic management measures such as one-way systems, contra-flow arrangements, and restrictions on heavy vehicles are implemented to reduce congestion,” he said.

Beyond traffic flow, Operation Ketupat also focuses on traveller safety through vehicle and driver inspections, ensuring the implementation of safety protocols, and educating communities about safe driving practices.

“Through Operation Ketupat, it is hoped that travel during the exodus becomes safer, more comfortable, and smoother so that communities can celebrate Eid al-Fitr with great happiness alongside their families,” he stated.

Karyoto further noted that the Security Maintenance Agency plays an important role in supporting the success of the operation, particularly in maintaining security and order during the exodus and return journey periods.

The Security Maintenance Agency is responsible for coordinating various task forces at the national level to ensure the operation runs effectively and efficiently.

“The Security Maintenance Agency’s role in the central operations task force is responsible for various task forces in the preemptive, preventive, and operational support fields that play a direct role in creating safe and conducive conditions,” Karyoto clarified.

He added that 548 Security Maintenance Agency personnel are involved in the central operations task force for Operation Ketupat 2026.

“From all the personnel involved, deployment assignments will be allocated to strategic locations and key points across various areas to optimise security during the exodus and return journey of Lebaran, including placements at places of worship, tourist attractions, terminals, stations, rest areas, airports, and ports,” he said.
