The Class IIB Penitentiary (Lapas) in Tabanan has granted Special Religious Remission (RK) for Nyepi Day to Hindu inmates. A total of 84 prisoners (napi) have received reductions in their sentences.

The Head of Tabanan Prison, Prawira Hadiwidjojo, stated that the sentence reductions vary from 15 days to two months. Of the total 84 inmates, 36 are special prisoners for narcotics and corruption cases, while the remainder are general criminal inmates.

“The remission received is a right for inmates who have met all requirements, such as good behaviour and active participation in rehabilitation programmes,” said Prawira Hadiwidjojo in his statement on Friday (20/3/2026).

Prawira invited the inmates to use the Nyepi moment for self-introspection. He hopes that the granting of remission will strengthen the inmates’ commitment to becoming better individuals.

“This sentence reduction should be appreciated and used as motivation to continue improving oneself. Make every process undergone as a step towards better change,” added Prawira.

It is known that Tabanan Class IIB Prison will also grant special remission for Muslim inmates during Idul Fitri Day. However, the number of inmates receiving Idul Fitri remission is still awaiting the decision letter (SK) from the central government.
