82 Indonesian Citizens Facing Legal Issues Repatriated from Malaysia
The Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services (Kemenimipas), through the Immigration Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, moved swiftly to repatriate 8<0xA0>0 Indonesian citizens facing legal issues from the Semenyih and Beranang Immigration Detention Centres (DTI) in Malaysia on Friday (11/9). This action is a direct follow-up to the working visit of the Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Agus Andrianto, alongside the Director General of Immigration, Hendarsam Marantoko, to DTI Semenyih on 4 September 2026.
Minister Agus emphasised that this repatriation is a top government priority to provide legal certainty and humanitarian protection for Indonesian citizens abroad. During his working visit to Malaysia last week, he personally communicated the commitment to resolving these cases.
“We conducted checks with the Director General of Immigration. Our cooperation with Malaysian immigration is quite good. We will soon endeavour to facilitate the repatriation. Once the paperwork is complete, they can return to Indonesia within a maximum of 10 days,” stated Minister Agus.
The repatriation, which took place exactly one week after the instruction, included 51 citizens from DTI Semenyih, consisting of 32 men, 14 women, and five young girls. Additionally, 31 citizens were repatriated from DTI Beranang, comprising 22 men and nine women. All repatriated individuals have completed their legal and immigration processes in Malaysia and possess official travel documents.
The departure process to the homeland was carried out in three separate waves today. The first wave, bound for Jakarta, carried 33 passengers via Citilink flight QG-503, scheduled to arrive in Indonesia at 21:40 WIB.
The second and third waves were bound for Medan. The second wave carried six passengers via Batik Air flight ID-7265, while the third wave carried 43 passengers via Air Asia flight QZ-127. Both flights to Medan were scheduled to land simultaneously at 21:25 WIB.
To ensure a safe and orderly process, each group was accompanied by officials from the Immigration and Consular functions of the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. To facilitate monitoring during the journey, the citizens were provided with blue uniforms and were provided with meals at the airport prior to departure.
The Immigration Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur continues to coordinate intensively with the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM), airlines, and relevant agencies in both Jakarta and Medan to ensure all stages, from departure to arrival, proceed smoothly.
The Indonesian citizens arrived in the homeland with great joy and gratitude. “Alhamdulillah, I am happy. I did not expect to be able to return to Indonesia after being in Malaysia for so long. Many thanks to Minister Agus Andrianto and Director General Hendarsam,” expressed one male citizen from Madura who had been in Malaysia for nearly nine years.
This repatriation is not merely an administrative procedure but a tangible manifestation of the state’s presence in protecting all its citizens regardless of their background.
