81st Postel Day Drives Meaningful Digital Connectivity
Bandung (ANTARA) - The Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, Angga Raka Prabowo, stated that the spirit of the 81st Postel Day celebration serves as a catalyst to drive the presence of meaningful connectivity in Indonesia during the digital era.
This can be seen, among other things, from the synergy between the government and industry players, which recently succeeded in conducting auctions for the 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz frequencies to accelerate the equitable distribution and quality improvement of connectivity.
“For our mobile operator colleagues and within the communications environment, the 700 MHz frequency is vital for 4G technology coverage and is essential for closing all blank spots. Meanwhile, the 2.6 GHz band represents our leap towards 5G quality,” said Angga during an interview at the PT Pos Indonesia Headquarters in Bandung on Sunday.
Angga Raka is optimistic that with the three mobile operators receiving portions of the newly auctioned frequencies, the acceleration of equitable connectivity access—specifically the improvement of internet quality via 5G networks in Indonesia—can be fast-tracked in line with the Government’s targets for 2029.
According to the Strategic Plan documents of the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) for 2025-2029, 5G network coverage is expected to reach 4.4 per cent in 2025 and is projected to reach 7 per cent by 2029, nearly doubling its current reach.
Meanwhile, the GSMA Mobile Economy Asia Pacific 2026 report, which shows the latest situation for 2026, mentions that 5G network coverage in Indonesia currently reaches 10 per cent of the total population and is projected to reach 32 per cent by 2030.
These data points indicate that the acceleration of frequency spectrum utilisation to improve the coverage and quality of digital connectivity in Indonesia is on the right track.
With stronger digital connectivity, the hope is that the Indonesian people will not merely be connected to digital services, but will also be empowered to present innovations and solutions once connected.
“This is the direction of digital development that we must continue to push: moving from merely connecting to empowering. We want every technological advancement to ultimately result in a life for the community that is easier, more productive, and more secure. And those benefits must be felt by all people throughout Indonesia without exception,” said Angga Raka.
Postel Day is a commemoration of the momentum to maintain national sovereignty through telecommunications shortly after Indonesia declared its independence.
This historic momentum occurred on 27 September 1945, when the Youth of Post, Telegraph, and Telephone (AMPTT) successfully seized and took over the Headquarters of Post, Telegraph, and Telephone (PTT) in Bandung from the Japanese military.
Thanks to that persistence, important information being fought for could resonate more widely, as those youths enabled the first telegram of the Republic of Indonesia’s independence to spread to the global stage.
