81st Indonesian Independence Day ceremony at KBRI KL held solemnly

The 81st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia was commemorated with great solemnity at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Monday.

The ceremony was held in the front courtyard of KBRI KL and was attended by hundreds of Indonesian diaspora members, including embassy staff, students, and prominent Indonesian community figures in Malaysia.

Serving as the ceremony inspector was the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Malaysia, Raden Dato’ Mohammad Iman Hascarya Kusumo.

In his Independence Day message, Ambassador Iman called on Indonesian citizens to appreciate the struggle and sacrifices of the nation’s independence heroes.

“The meaning of independence for us is to live freely, in the sense of being free to create, to express opinions, and to work. This is a blessing, the result of the struggle of our heroes,” said Ambassador Iman.

Ambassador Iman also conveyed the commitment of KBRI Kuala Lumpur, together with other Indonesian representatives in Malaysia, to provide the best services and protection for all Indonesian citizens in Malaysia.

One of the highlights of the ceremony at KBRI KL was the poised performance of the embassy’s flag-hoisting team (Paskibra), which successfully carried out its duty of raising the red-and-white flag.

The Paskibra of KBRI Kuala Lumpur consists of 22 junior and senior high school students from the Indonesian School of Kuala Lumpur (SIKL).

They had previously trained for approximately 50 days at KBRI KL, under the guidance of teachers and several attachés at the embassy.

Following the ceremony, Satyalancana Karya Satya awards were presented to the Coordinator of Political Affairs at KBRI KL, Jopkie Kurniawan, and the Trade Attaché of KBRI KL, Aziza Rahmaniar Salam, in recognition of 20 years of continuous service as civil servants to the Republic of Indonesia, making both of them exemplary role models for other employees.

The awards were granted based on Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia Number 50/TK/Year 2026, issued in Jakarta on 28 July 2026 by President Prabowo Subianto.

The awards were presented directly by Ambassador Iman to the two recipients.

The event continued with the cutting of a tumpeng by the Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia as an expression of gratitude for 81 years of Indonesian independence, followed by a reception and group photo session.
