81st Independence Day: PLBN Wini Affirms Border's Role as the Nation's Front Porch
The Wini Cross-Border Post (PLBN Wini) served as the location for the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia ceremony on Monday (17/8). The ceremony in the border area affirmed the role of PLBN Wini as the foremost part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). This area also serves as a space for community activities that require support through public services, development, and economic strengthening.
At the event, the Special Staff for Strategic Issues to the Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections, Karjono Atmoharsono, acted as the Ceremony Inspector. Meanwhile, Second Lieutenant Arh Farius Septia Gandy served as the Ceremony Commander. Karjono wore a buna woven cloth with a distinctive motif of the Insana community. The use of traditional attire was part of honouring the identity and cultural richness of the local community in the independence commemoration in the border area.
He conveyed that the independence commemoration in the border area holds strategic meaning because border regions are the foremost part of Indonesia. Karjono emphasised that sovereignty is not only realised through the ability to safeguard territory, but also through the state’s presence in providing services, supplying infrastructure, developing the economy, protecting the community, and improving welfare. “The border is not merely a dividing line, but a living space for the community as well as an important part of the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Karjono in his statement on Tuesday (18/8/2026).
This was conveyed while reading the mandate of the Minister of Home Affairs and Chair of the National Border Management Agency (BNPP) of the Republic of Indonesia, Muhammad Tito Karnavian. In his mandate, the BNPP Chair also emphasised the importance of strengthening the function of PLBN as a state gate. In this regard, PLBN not only plays a role in inspecting the movement of people and goods, but also needs to be continuously strengthened as part of efforts to maintain sovereignty, improve service quality, facilitate trade and logistics, and open market access for community products in border areas.
In line with the theme of the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence, “Sovereign, Just and Prosperous Indonesia”, border area development is directed towards strengthening sovereignty, improving governance and public service quality, and promoting community welfare and competitiveness.
The Independence Day ceremony at PLBN Wini was attended by the Head of the Legal, Organisation, and Personnel Bureau of BNPP RI, and was followed by elements of the state civil apparatus (ASN), the Indonesian National Armed Forces and Police, village officials, the community, and students from elementary to high school levels. The involvement of various elements reflects the participation of border communities in commemorating independence day while strengthening the national spirit.
The ceremony also involved 10 members of the Flag Raising Troop (Paskibraka) in hoisting the Red and White flag. They came from SMA Negeri Oekolo, along with a choir group from SMPN Manufonu. On the same occasion, the Satyalancana Karya Satya Honour was awarded to three civil servants within the BNPP RI. The awards were given to Agustino Romeyandus Manehat, S.STP., Fredirikus Yafet Kope, S.STP., and Yosef Adrianus Usfahik, S.STP., as a form of appreciation for their dedication and loyalty in carrying out duties as state apparatus. The award ceremony was part of the 81st Indonesian Independence Day commemoration and a form of appreciation for the dedication of the apparatus in carrying out government duties, including supporting services and border area management.
