81st Independence Day Logo Chosen by Public Vote to Honour Public Aspirations

The government has stated that the selection of the logo for the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia was conducted through an open voting mechanism as a form of respect for public aspirations and to strengthen public participation in the independence commemoration. The result demonstrates the government’s commitment to valuing public choice. Thus, the logo for the 81st Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia belongs not only to the government but also to all Indonesian people, said Head of the Government Communication Agency (Bakom) RI, Muhammad Qodari, in a statement cited in Jakarta on Monday. Qodari stated that the chosen logo is the result of a collective public choice, not solely a government decision. The voting, which took place from 24 to 28 June 2026, involved people from various regions across Indonesia as well as the Indonesian diaspora, with a total of 68,569 votes cast to select one of five candidate logo designs. Based on the voting results, designer Fajar Novario from Padang, West Sumatra, emerged as the winner after securing 30,699 votes, or 44.73 percent of the total votes cast. According to Qodari, this public involvement through an open voting mechanism to determine the Independence Day logo is the first time the government has undertaken such an initiative. The selected logo represents the values of togetherness, unity, and the public’s hope for a sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia, in line with the main theme of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia this year. The government hopes that involving the public in choosing the visual identity can become a new, more participatory, inclusive, and collaborative tradition, while also inviting the public to enliven the independence commemoration. Qodari also expressed appreciation to all members of the public who participated in the voting. He said it is hoped this spirit of togetherness will continue to be reflected throughout the entire series of events for the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. This independence commemoration, he continued, must serve as a momentum to strengthen unity, reinforce optimism, and encourage collaboration among all elements of the nation in building Indonesia going forward.
