800 transmigrant families lack water

MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: Some 800 transmigrant families in
five housing complexes in Dompu regency are experiencing a water
shortage.

"The decrease in water supply to their houses is due to a
broken-down water pipe network installed 15 years ago," said
Dompu Regent Abubakar Ahmad on Friday.

The transmigrants have been forced to take water from a creek
located four kilometers from their homes. Each carry a bucket of
five to 10 liters of water.

The Dompu administration will provide Rp 600 million
(US$73,170) to fix the pipe network. It will also propose that
the central government provide Rp 4.5 billion to install new
pipes. -- Antara
