80 Kilograms of Bulk Cooking Oil Spilled in Ciputat, South Tangerang, Causing Two Motorcyclists to Fall
A trader accidentally spilled 80 kilograms of bulk cooking oil on Jalan Suka Damai, Ciputat, South Tangerang. The resulting slippery road conditions caused two motorcyclists to fall.
The incident occurred on Saturday (6/6/2026) at approximately 3:30 PM WIB. The spill happened while a resident, identified as Rina, was refilling oil from a storage tank.
“Mrs Rina panicked because the filling valve pipe on the bulk oil tank detached while being connected to a jerrycan, causing the oil to spill onto the road,” said the East Ciputat Police Chief, Kompol Bambante Askar Sodiq.
Bambang noted that the amount of oil spilled was substantial enough to flow across the public road, with an estimated total of 80 kilograms. “The spill involved approximately five jerrycans, each containing 16 kilograms, from a total storage of 4.5 tonnes,” he added.
The road became extremely slippery due to the oil. Bambang reported that at least two motorcyclists slipped while passing through the area. “There were riders who fell before the road was closed. Two motorcycles were involved in the falls, but there were no injuries, and the riders were able to continue their journeys,” Bambang stated.
Upon receiving a report from the local community leader (RW), the police acted quickly. For the safety of road users, officers temporarily closed the access road. “The closed section is Jalan Suka Damai RT 001/04, spanning approximately 200 metres,” he said.
The South Tangerang City Fire Brigade was also deployed to the scene to spray and clean the remaining oil from the asphalt. As of now, officers are still working to restore normal road conditions. “The incident began at 3:30 PM WIB, and cleaning efforts are ongoing to ensure the road is safe for residents and to prevent further traffic accidents caused by the slippery surface,” Bambang concluded.
