8 Students Pitch Community Service Ideas Before Nicholas Saputra and Cinta Laura
A debate among university students took place at Genera-Z Berbakti, a call for proposal programme for student groups to carry out community service in tourism village locations fostered by Bakti BCA. The moment could be witnessed in the final round, which brought together eight finalists competing for four target fostered villages. The debate by each representative team from eight different universities was presented before the Genera-Z Berbakti 2026 panellists, namely Nicholas Saputra, Cinta Laura Kiehl, and Tri Mumpuni.
The participants’ debate occurred in the Head-to-Head round, which required the finalists to exchange arguments, ask and answer questions, and defend their respective ideas while duelling for their target village. The intensity of the debate and competition for the target village was felt directly by Ghifari, one of the representatives of the Mega Lestari team from Universitas Padjadjaran.
"My competitive spirit was finally provoked, so I wanted to give my best. I was confident and happy to be able to go head-to-head to test the strength of our proposals against the opposing team," said Ghifari, as quoted from an official statement on Monday (6/7).
In the Head-to-Head stage competing for the Gunung Padang Site Tourism Village in Cianjur, Ghifari, representing UNPAD, faced Miki, a student representative from IPB University. Both exchanged ideas and arguments competing for the Bakti BCA fostered tourism village they were targeting. Similar to Ghifari, Miki admitted he was confident that the solutions and arguments he presented were the best.
"I did not want to think too much about who the opponent was. Regarding the content of the arguments, I am very confident that the solution choices our team formulated are the best and are ready to be implemented," said this member of the Sabilulungan Lestari team.
Another testimony was delivered by Rifki, one of the representatives of the DESA HIDUP team from UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. "Before going forward, I told myself to be strong and show my best, to present what I really wanted to present with a calm feeling, and of course to fight the fear I had," said Rifki.
Uzi, a representative of the Laskar Selasik team from Universitas Gadjah Mada who faced Rifki, also had his own story in the Head-to-Head round. He admitted to feeling tense even though he knew the reason he was chosen as the team representative for that round. "I was chosen for this round because I have a habit of debating and giving opinions in small discussions. However, this time the atmosphere was very different," Uzi revealed.
Scientist and social entrepreneur Tri Mumpuni, who was one of the panellists, said that students must be able to convey their ideas and concepts coherently so that they are more easily understood by the community. This is important so that these ideas and concepts do not stop at the conceptual level.
"Students must be able to convey ideas coherently, clearly, and in a structured manner, so that their concepts are easily understood. After successfully understanding the root of the problem they want to solve, they must be able to formulate solutions critically until they become real work programmes that can be implemented in the village," said Tri Mumpuni.
Through a series of tests from the panellists and debates among participants, the Genera-Z Berbakti finalists were invited to discuss and exchange ideas sharply, critically, and with a focus on the substance of the social innovations being proposed. Four out of the eight Genera-Z Berbakti finalists will have the opportunity to implement their ideas in four Bakti BCA fostered tourism villages.
The four tourism villages are the Terong Creative Tourism Village in Belitung Regency, the Gunung Padang Site Tourism Village in Cianjur Regency, the Patakbanteng Tourism Village in Wonosobo Regency, and the Kakaskasen Dua Tourism Village in Tomohon City.
"BCA views the enthusiasm and competitive spirit of the finalists at every stage of the programme as a positive thing. This shows they truly understand and believe in their respective ideas. We hope they can maintain this spirit, especially when they later implement the programmes and collaborate with the community in the Bakti BCA fostered tourism villages," concluded BCA’s EVP of Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility, Hera F. Haryn.
