8 European countries easy for Indonesians to visit without a Schengen visa
Several countries in the European region can be options for Indonesian citizens (WNI) who wish to travel without having to arrange a Schengen visa. In fact, some of them provide visa-free facilities for holders of ordinary Indonesian passports.
However, it should be noted that not all countries on the following list are entirely within the European continent. Some are located in the border regions of Europe and Asia, and thus are frequently included in European travel options.
Here are eight countries that are relatively easy for Indonesians to visit based on the visa regulations in effect for 2026.
- Serbia
Serbia is one of the European countries that can be visited by Indonesians without a visa. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia states that holders of ordinary Indonesian passports can enter without a visa for visits of up to 30 days within a one-year period. Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, can be a tourist destination as it offers a blend of history, architecture, and urban life in the Balkan region.
- Turkey
Turkey is an attractive choice because part of its territory is in Europe and part is in Asia. Holders of ordinary Indonesian passports are exempt from visas for tourism and transit purposes with a maximum stay of 30 days. This policy has been in effect since 24 December 2021. Due to its geographical position, Turkey is also a popular gateway for tourists wishing to continue their journey to various European countries.
- Belarus
Belarus is also among the European countries providing relatively easy access for Indonesian passport holders. Recent travel data shows that Indonesians can enter without a visa for visits of up to 30 days, subject to certain conditions regarding entry and exit points. One condition to note is the use of entry routes that meet visa-free requirements. As rules can change, travellers should verify the latest provisions before purchasing tickets.
- Ukraine
Ukraine is also recorded as providing visa-free facilities to Indonesians for visits of up to 30 days. This provision is stated in the entry regime information for foreign nationals issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. However, security factors remain a crucial consideration for tourists as the situation in Ukraine is still affected by conflict. Visa ease does not automatically mean a destination is safe to visit.
- Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan is located in the Caucasus region, which serves as a meeting point between Europe and Asia. For Indonesians, this country provides ease through electronic visas and visa facilities that can be obtained at the airport under specified conditions. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan includes Indonesia in the list of countries whose citizens can obtain a single-entry electronic visa at the airport with a visa validity of up to 30 days. Thus, Azerbaijan can be a choice for tourists desiring travel to Eastern Europe without the lengthy conventional visa application process.
- Georgia
Georgia is also located in the Caucasus region and is often a travel choice connecting Europe with Asia. However, Indonesians are not included in the list of ordinary passport holders who are visa-free for Georgia. The Georgian Embassy in Indonesia stated that Indonesian citizens can apply for an e-visa for short visits such as tourism, business, or medical purposes. This process is conducted online through Georgia’s official portal. Therefore, Georgia is on the list of countries that are relatively easy to visit in terms of the visa process, but it is not a visa-free country for ordinary Indonesian passport holders.
- Armenia
Armenia is another option in the Caucasus region. Indonesians with ordinary passports still require a visa to enter Armenia, whereas visa-free entry based on bilateral agreements applies to holders of Indonesian diplomatic and service passports. Armenia also provides e-visa services for tourists who meet the requirements. Armenian visitor visas can be granted for up to 120 days, with the possibility of extension under certain conditions.
In addition to visa-free countries, Indonesians can also consider several Balkan countries that provide ease of entry if tourists possess certain visas or residence permits from other countries. However, the conditions depend heavily on the type of visa held and the policies of the destination country. Therefore, the status of being “easy to visit” does not always mean visa-free.
It should be noted that European Union and Schengen area countries such as France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and Switzerland still require a Schengen visa for holders of ordinary Indonesian passports. Ease of travel to Serbia or Turkey does not mean tourists can enter Schengen countries without a visa.
Before departing, Indonesians should re-verify passport requirements, the validity of travel documents, proof of accommodation, return or onward tickets, travel insurance, and the financial provisions that may be requested by immigration officers. Visa regulations can also change at any time. Therefore, information from immigration authorities or the ministry of foreign affairs of the destination country should be the final reference before travelling.
Of the eight countries mentioned above, those clearly confirmed as visa-free for ordinary Indonesian passport holders are Serbia, Turkey, Belarus, and Ukraine. Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Armenia have relatively easy visa mechanisms, but are not visa-free for ordinary Indonesian passports.
