Government Regulation (PP) No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas) officially takes effect today, Saturday (28/3/2026). Through this regulation, the government mandates digital platforms to deactivate accounts of child users under the age of 16 as part of efforts to protect children in the digital realm. As an initial implementation phase, the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) is targeting eight major digital platforms deemed to pose high risks to children. The eight applications are: Four of those platforms are X/Twitter, Bigo Live, TikTok, and Roblox. Platform X has reportedly changed its minimum user age limit to 16 years since 17 March and is beginning to identify and deactivate underage child accounts today. Meanwhile, Bigo Live has raised its user age limit to 18+ in its user policy and privacy settings, and implemented a multi-layered moderation system combining artificial intelligence (AI) technology and human verification. In addition, Bigo Live has written to the App Store to raise its application age classification from 13 to 18+. TikTok has also stated its commitment to comply with PP Tunas, which takes effect today. “This includes taking compliance measures regarding teenage accounts under 16 years old after the self-assessment process, and through close consultation with the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi),” TikTok said on its official page.
