8.53 Million Passengers from 15 Groups Utilise Free Transport Service
Jakarta’s Head of the Regional-Owned Enterprises Development Agency (BP BUMD), Saefuloh Hidayat, revealed that 8.53 million passengers from 15 community groups have utilised the free public transport service. “This free transport has been used by 8.53 million passengers from 15 community groups,” Saefuloh said at City Hall on Wednesday. In terms of passenger numbers, he noted that public transport users increased to 230.8 million from the previous 210.4 million in 2025, a rise of 9.7 percent. To boost public interest in using public transport, the Jakarta Government is also continuing to develop infrastructure and services. One such project is the construction of the LRT 1B, which has now reached 94.1 percent completion. “God willing, it will be ready to be inaugurated and operated in the near future,” Saefuloh explained. Previously, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government was considering which groups would be added as beneficiaries of the free public transport service beyond the existing 15 categories. According to DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo, this is being done in line with the planned fare increase for Transjakarta and Transjabodetabek. “If there is a fare adjustment, then certainly some groups will be affected. We are calculating which groups we might provide additional benefits to, beyond the 15 we have already decided upon,” said Pramono. He also urged residents who fall into the 15 eligible groups to make use of the free transport service.
