8,000 Runners Set to Enliven PLN Electric Run 2026

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN (Persero) is set to hold the PLN Electric Run 2026, a running event that champions a healthy lifestyle whilst campaigning for the energy transition. Carrying the theme ‘Powering Our Green Future’ in its fourth year, PLN has opened slots for 8,000 runners across 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon categories, to be held on 8 November 2026 at the ICE BSD complex in Tangerang. PLN Vice President Director Yusuf Didi Setiarto stated that this annual running event is part of the company’s effort to invite all elements of society to participate in the national energy transition journey. ‘The energy transition cannot be undertaken by PLN alone. Collaboration from all parties is needed, from the government, business world, and communities to the public. Therefore, we present the PLN Electric Run as a collaborative space so that the public can take part in the journey towards clean energy through a simple step, which is running together,’ said Yusuf Didi. Meanwhile, PLN Director of Retail and Commerce M. Fahrur Rozy conveyed that this event represents PLN’s consistency in campaigning for a low-emission lifestyle as part of the Net Zero Emissions 2060 target. Over four consecutive years, Fahrur Rozy continued, PLN has consistently invited the public to be part of the energy transition. According to him, the commitment towards NZE by 2060 is not only realised through the construction of clean energy infrastructure but also through simple movements involving the community. ‘Running makes us healthier while contributing to reducing emissions. This is a tangible manifestation of how sustainability can start from small steps taken together,’ he said. He explained that the positive impact of this annual running competition continues to increase each year. In its first edition, the event contributed to an emission reduction of 11,880 kilogrammes of CO₂, which then increased to 14,363 kg CO₂ in the second year, and 21,812 kg CO₂ in the third year. ‘With a target of 8,000 participants this year, we estimate the contribution to emission reduction will reach approximately 24,780 kilogrammes of CO₂. However, the impact of the PLN Electric Run does not stop at the environmental aspect alone,’ said Fahrur Rozy. In this year’s event, PLN is again collaborating with Rekosistem, the PLN Electric Run sustainable partner, for waste activation, sorting, and processing from the launch event until after the event concludes to provide a measurable impact on the environment. PLN will also present a social and environmental responsibility programme, including providing electric vehicles to inspirational women and various door prizes of electric vehicles and household electrification to support a green lifestyle. PLN Icon Plus President Director Chipta Perdana said that to support the PLN Electric Run 2026 event, his team has prepared an increasingly easy registration mechanism that pampers participants via the PLN Mobile application. ‘At the PLN Electric Run 2026, we are presenting an increasingly easy registration experience through various schemes, starting from Early Bird, Group Registration, General Sale, to a Special Ticket programme via PLN Mobile,’ said Chipta. Through the ‘Special Ticket’ programme on the PLN Mobile app, customers who purchase electricity tokens worth at least Rp50,000 eight times during the period of 1-26 July 2026 have the opportunity to obtain one free slot for the PLN Electric Run 2026, which can be redeemed during registration on 27 July 2026. Meanwhile, Vice Chairman of the Executive Board of the All-Indonesia Athletics Association (PB PASI), Tigor Tanjung, appreciated PLN’s consistency in presenting a running event that not only encourages people to live healthily but also carries a mission of sustainability. ‘What PLN is doing is extraordinary because it not only invites people to run but also invites them to be part of a greener future. We also appreciate PLN’s commitment to continuously improving the quality of the event to the point of applying for a World Athletics Label. This shows that the PLN Electric Run is developing into an event that meets international standards,’ said Tigor. In agreement, Kompas Daily Deputy Managing Editor Adi Prinantyo, acting as event organiser, said the PLN Electric Run has grown into a public communication platform that integrates a healthy lifestyle, environmental awareness, and education about the energy transition. ‘Running not only makes people healthier but also becomes a symbol of contribution to emission reduction and the implementation of the energy transition. With the opening of the International Runners category and the application for a World Athletics Label, this year’s event will present a higher competition standard,’ said Adi.
