79th National Cooperative Day Aims to Promote Modern and Professional Image

Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono announced that the peak celebration of the 79th National Cooperative Day will be held at Indonesia Arena, Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), Jakarta, on Sunday, 12 July. “The peak of the Cooperative Day commemoration on 12 July is planned to be held at Indonesia Arena, GBK, with the theme ‘Cooperatives Empowered, Indonesia Victorious’,” Ferry said at the Ministry of Cooperatives office on Thursday, 2 July. Ferry detailed that the series of commemorative events will continue on Sunday, 19 July, with a Car Free Day event on Jalan Rasuna Said, featuring a community walk and stands showcasing cooperative products. “We will also inaugurate the renovation of the building where the First Cooperative Congress was held in Tasikmalaya City on 24 July, along with various other events,” he revealed. He added that the 79th National Cooperative Day commemoration is also held to convince the public that cooperatives can become modern, professional business entities and serve as necessary instruments of justice for the community. At the same occasion, the General Chair of the Indonesian Cooperative Council (Dekopin), Bambang Haryadi, expressed hope that the 79th National Cooperative Day would be a turning point, not merely a ceremony or a 79th anniversary commemoration, but a moment to invite all levels of society to see the cooperative movement as an implementation of the 1945 Constitution, particularly Article 33. “Therefore, we hope that through this joint commemoration, going forward, especially within our economic system, cooperatives can be accepted by all levels of society, particularly the youth, Gen Z, so that cooperatives are not seen as an outdated economic system but one that is common and widely adopted by developed countries around the world,” he concluded.
