78-Year-Old Man Dies in Fire at Rented House

A 78-year-old man, Aceng, died after the rented house he occupied caught fire on Jalan Ciparay Tengah, Bojongloa Kidul District, Bandung City, in the early hours of Thursday. Emergency personnel evacuated the victim and transported him to hospital.

Head of the Bandung City Fire and Rescue Service, Soni Bakhtiyar, stated that the property which burned was the house where Aceng lived. The incident began when a firecracker ignited, followed by the appearance of flames that spread to the building structure.

“In the early hours, the sound of a firecracker was heard, followed by the emergence of a sizable fire that spread to the building,” he said on Thursday.

He noted the rented house that burned measured 6 by 12 square metres. Officers deployed three fire engines and two firefighting crews.

After extinguishing the blaze, he said, personnel checked the burned area and carried out cooling operations. They found the victim deceased inside the affected area.

“The firefighting operation took one hour and 20 minutes. Officers found the victim inside the burned area,” he stated.
