78 students get scholarships

JAKARTA: Seventy-eight needy students from the elementary school to the university level in Palmerah, West Jakarta, have received academic scholarships from Bina Nusantara University.

University rector Theresia Widia Soerjaningsih said on Thursday the students, selected from some 300 applicants who live near the university's campus in West Jakarta, all performed above average in school.

"They will automatically continue receiving the scholarships if they maintain their grades," she said.

The university awarded Rp 360,000 (US$41.62) a year for 40 elementary school students, Rp 600,000 for 19 junior high school students and Rp 900,000 for 16 high school students.

Three Bina Nusantara University students were awarded scholarships that will allow them to attend the university tuition free. -- JP
