78 Foreign Nationals Questioned by Immigration Following Operation at GIIC Bekasi Project
The Directorate General of Immigration is examining 78 foreign nationals (WNA) who were caught in an enforcement operation by the Bekasi Class I Non-TPI Immigration Office at the Greenland International Industrial Center (GIIC) Deltamas construction project site in Bekasi Regency.
West Java Regional Head of the Directorate General of Immigration, Jaya Saputra, stated that all the foreign nationals are undergoing administrative checks regarding the alignment between their stay permits and the activities they are undertaking.
“All the WNA are still being examined regarding the suitability between their stay permits and their activities while in Indonesia, particularly in the Bekasi Regency area,” said Jaya in Bekasi on Wednesday.
He explained that the foreign nationals were secured while working at the project site and could not produce valid immigration documents such as passports or stay permits during the inspection.
Initial examination results show that seven WNA have limited stay permits, while 69 Chinese nationals and one Vietnamese national are using visitor stay permits. One Malaysian national is recorded as using the visa-free visitor facility for tourism purposes.
Officers are currently verifying the suitability of the activities of the seven holders of limited stay permits with the permits they possess. Meanwhile, the 71 WNA using visitor stay permits are also being further investigated to ensure no violations occur.
Conversely, for WNA who have complete and appropriate documents, the documents will be returned, and the individuals may continue their activities.
He emphasised the government’s commitment to maintaining security stability through oversight of foreigners by implementing a selective policy principle, namely only allowing foreigners who provide benefits to Indonesia.
The operation focused on monitoring the presence and activities of foreign workers, one of which was conducted in the GIIC Deltamas project area that is undergoing development.
Bekasi Immigration also invites the public to actively participate in oversight by reporting the presence of WNA suspected of violating immigration provisions through official complaint services.
