78 Foreign Nationals Caught in Bekasi Immigration Operation, Suspected Illegal Workers
Bekasi – Seventy-eight foreign nationals were apprehended during the Wira Waspada Operation conducted by the Bekasi Class I Non-TPI Immigration Office on Wednesday (8/4/2026). The dozens of foreign nationals were secured while in the Greenland International Industrial Center (GIIC) Deltamas area, Pasir Ranji, Cikarang Central, Bekasi Regency. The Head of the West Java Region Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, Jaya Saputra, stated that suspicions of violations arose because the foreign nationals could not show immigration documents during checks by officers. After being caught, the foreign nationals were transported by bus from the construction area to the Bekasi Immigration Office for identification and further administrative examination. “Currently, the 78 foreign nationals are undergoing administrative checks related to their activities and presence in Indonesian territory,” said Jaya. Jaya revealed that identification results showed that of the total 78 foreign nationals secured, 76 were Chinese nationals, one Vietnamese national, and one Malaysian national. “Seven Chinese nationals hold limited stay permits. The other 69 hold visit stay permits. One Vietnamese national holds a visit stay permit. And one Malaysian national entered with visa-free visit facilities for tourism purposes,” explained Jaya. Jaya stated that the seven foreign nationals holding limited stay permits are still in the confirmation stage regarding the suitability of their work with the permits they hold. Meanwhile, the other 71 foreign nationals holding visit stay permits are being further investigated to ensure whether there are immigration violations. Jaya emphasised that supervision of the presence and activities of foreign nationals is part of implementing the Selective Policy principle. “The aim is to carry out the Selective Policy, namely to ensure that only foreign nationals who bring benefits to the Republic of Indonesia,” he said. He added that this step also aims to maintain national security stability and protect job opportunities for local communities. “This is in line with the principle of law enforcement oriented towards public interests,” said Jaya. Jaya assured that the immigration side will continue to increase supervision of the presence of foreigners in its area. “This operation is expected to provide legal certainty and maintain security and order in the industrial area,” he said.
