BANDUNG – The West Java provincial government will provide educational funding assistance to 78,000 students who failed to gain admission to state senior high schools (SMA) and vocational schools (SMK) due to limited capacity, out of a total of 464,000 applicants identified through a new student mapping process (PCMB). These students will attend private schools that have partnered with the government.

Head of the West Java Education Office, Purwanto, stated that the data on students not accommodated in state schools was obtained after conducting the PCMB. He emphasised that these students must still receive access to education.

“This is a form of intervention from the West Java Provincial Government following the new student mapping (PCMB). From the mapping, we identified that many children could not be accommodated. We want to continue providing the best service to the community,” he said on Monday (15/6/2026).

He added that his office has established cooperation with 751 private schools willing to participate in the programme. Purwanto confirmed that the mapping results showed 78,000 students were not placed in state schools.

The government will also curate the private schools to ensure the quality of education. “We will look at the students who enrol. From the mapping, we see around 70,000-plus, precisely 78,000, who could not be accommodated in state schools,” he said.

He explained that the educational funding assistance provided includes building fees and tuition fees (SPP). The aid is available to students registered in the PCMB, even if they come from financially capable families. “Yes, because they intended to attend state schools but were not accommodated, the government is providing compensation,” he said.
