76 Million Citizens Expected to Travel Home Using Private Vehicles
Jakarta – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) estimates that 76 million Indonesians will travel home using private vehicles ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026/1447 H this year.
This figure represents 50% of the total population expected to travel during the holiday period. Deputy Minister of ESDM Yuliot Tanjung stated that out of an estimated 143 million total travellers during Eid al-Fitr, 76 million will use private vehicles. The government is committed to providing optimal services to the public, including ensuring adequate fuel supply.
“From consolidation with relevant ministries and agencies, it is estimated that the total travellers using private vehicles is 76 million. This is quite significant,” Yuliot said during a press conference at the BPH Migas office in Jakarta on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
Regarding fuel availability for travellers, Yuliot revealed that current stocks of non-subsidised fuel such as RON 92 petrol (Pertamax) currently stand at 29–30 days’ supply. Meanwhile, Pertamina Dex stocks total 45 days, and avtur 37 days.
“Pertamax or RON 92 and Pertamax Turbo, Pertamina Dex, avtur—these reserves are in fact well above the established requirements,” he explained.
Although overall reserves stand at 23–25 days, the domestic fuel resilience reaches 30 days when assessed on an ecosystem basis. Regarding electric vehicle charging, Yuliot stated that the government guarantees the availability of primary energy to be distributed to end users.
“We are also ensuring that primary energy remains adequately available,” he added.
Projected Fuel Consumption
The government projects that daily petrol consumption will increase by up to 12% during the Eid al-Fitr 2026 travel period compared with normal conditions.
Erika Retnowati, head of the National Command Post for the ESDM sector during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026, announced that during this period, the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) and PT Pertamina (Persero) have stationed 125 fuel terminals, 7,888 petrol stations and 72 fuel depots, with additional facilities deployed in regions experiencing the highest fuel demand.
“Overall, the condition of fuel stock resilience is safe for petrol, diesel, kerosene and avtur,” Erika stated during the press conference of the National Command Post for the ESDM sector on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
For liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), the Ministry of ESDM, through the Directorate General of Oil and Gas and Pertamina, has stationed 40 LPG terminals, 757 LPG refuelling points and 6,662 LPG agents. LPG stock resilience is projected to remain safe and stable during the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr period, with agents and LPG bases maintaining 24-hour readiness, particularly in high-demand areas.
“LPG distribution during the command post period is projected to increase approximately 4% compared with normal average distribution,” Erika stated.
Meanwhile, diesel/gasoil fuel is expected to decline 14.5%.
“Petrol will increase by approximately 12%, whilst gasoil (diesel) will decline 14.5% from normal conditions. Avtur is estimated to increase 2.8% and kerosene to increase 4.2%,” she said.
