JAKARTA (JP): Owners of 750 houses in Tambora district in West
Jakarta have voluntarily demolished their buildings located in
three sub-districts where a new railway track linking Jakarta and
Tangerang will be built.
During the demolition, which was carried out on Wednesday, the
residents of Grogol, Wijaya Kusuma and Jelambar sub-districts
were assisted by officers of the West Jakarta's Law and Order
Office.
"We appreciate the local people's willingness to demolish the
buildings themselves because this will reduce the burden of the
municipality," said H. Karsidin, head of the local law and order
office.
Karsidin said that out the 750 demolished houses, 225 were in
Grogol, 417 in Wijaya Kusuma and 108 in Jelambar.
He explained that his office had provided a number of trucks
to help transport recyclable building materials to other areas
free of charge.
Further demolitions along the new 20-kilometer railway track
between Duri station and the Tangerang regency border is
estimated to take place in 10 days, he said.
The construction of the railway track will soon begin by the
Jabotabek Railway project, he added. (hhr)
