75 Chinese Workers Clash with Residents in Morowali
A total of 75 workers from China, employed by PT Astima Konstruksi (Askon), were involved in a clash with residents in Morowali Regency. They have been evacuated by the Central Sulawesi Regional Police for questioning.
“It is true, we have evacuated 75 foreign nationals and brought them to the Central Sulawesi Regional Police Headquarters for investigation,” stated Morowali Police Chief AKBP Reza Khomeini in a statement on Sunday (4/10).
According to Reza, joint personnel remain on standby at the location to anticipate potential security disturbances or any undesirable developments in the situation.
“Based on current victim data up to Saturday (3/10), there are three Indonesian citizens and one foreign national who sustained injuries. Currently, the injured foreign national is receiving medical treatment,” he revealed.
Reza noted that the police have also coordinated with the Immigration Department regarding the presence of these foreign nationals, including the verification of documents and administrative completeness.
“The Morowali Police will handle this incident in accordance with applicable legal provisions. We will also continue to conduct intensive witness examinations and coordinate with all relevant parties,” he explained.
Reza urged the public to remain calm, exercise restraint, and avoid being easily provoked by unverified information.
“We urge the community not to take actions that could exacerbate the situation. Please trust the police to handle this incident and let us work together to maintain a conducive security situation,” he said.
