74 RI illegal migrants detained

MALAYSIA: Malaysian police have detained 74 Indonesian illegal immigrants, including six women, in an operation to nab and deport illegal in the northern Terengganu state, the official Bernama news agency said on Tuesday.

The migrants were arrested at a construction site late on Monday, said director of the state Immigration Department Mohamed Nasri Ishak.

"This is the biggest arrest on illegal immigrants in the state for the year," he told Bernama.

Two local workers were also detained for questioning in the operation, he said.

Officials have embarked on a state-wide crackdown on illegal migrants, in line with the government's efforts to reduce the large number of illegals in the country. --DPA
