731 Samarinda narcotics inmates receive remission for active participation in rehabilitation programmes

Samarinda (ANTARA) - A total of 731 inmates at the Samarinda Class IIA Narcotics Prison have been granted general remission in conjunction with the 81st anniversary of Indonesian independence in 2026, thanks to their active participation in various rehabilitation programmes.

“This remission is granted as the state’s appreciation for the good faith, discipline and active participation of inmates in all rehabilitation programmes,” said Puang Dirham, Head of the Samarinda Class IIA Narcotics Prison, in Samarinda on Tuesday.

He detailed that of the 731 remission recipients, 724 prisoners received General Remission I, or a partial reduction of their sentence, with amounts varying from one to six months. Meanwhile, seven other prisoners were entitled to General Remission II, allowing them to walk free immediately on 17 August.

In addition to the Samarinda Narcotics Prison, the joy of independence was also felt by thousands of other prisoners within the working area of the East Kalimantan Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

Overall, the East Kalimantan Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections recorded that the total number of independence remission recipients across East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan reached 9,405 prisoners and juvenile detainees.

Of the 9,405 recipients across East and North Kalimantan, 9,138 prisoners received General Remission I and 202 prisoners received General Remission II, meaning immediate release.

For the juvenile detainee category, the government granted General Remission I to 64 children and General Remission II, resulting in immediate release, to 21 juvenile detainees.
