Cimahi – A total of 720 residents departed Cimahi City, West Java, to return to their hometowns for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. They were sent off free of charge on Tuesday (18 March 2026) from the Cimahi Municipal Government Office Complex, Jalan Rd Hardjakusumah.

The free travel participants were transported using 15 buses with destinations including Semarang via Cirebon and Cimahi towards Solo via Yogyakarta. Deputy Mayor of Cimahi, Adhitia Yudisthira, directly sent off the departing residents.

“I want to return to Solo, and alhamdulillah I received a free homecoming ticket from the Cimahi municipal government,” said Suryo, 50 years old, one of the free travel programme participants.

For Suryo, the free homecoming scheme was tremendously helpful in reducing his household expenses, as he endeavours every Eid to return to his hometown of Solor with his wife and two children. Holiday travel costs during Eid can be quite substantial.

“I work at a garage and must return home every year. If transport costs around 400 per person, multiplied by four people it’s quite significant. So this free homecoming scheme is very helpful indeed,” he said.

Deputy Mayor Adhitia Yudisthira stated that in fact, more than 1,700 residents had registered for this year’s free homecoming programme. However, only 720 could be sent as the municipality had prepared only 15 buses.

“The Cimahi municipal government successfully sent 720 free homecoming participants in 2026, and this is the largest in the Greater Bandung region,” said Adhitia.
