700 Musician Delegates to Attend 'KMI 2026' in Makassar
The Makassar City Government is continuing to finalise preparations for the ‘Indonesian Music Conference (KMI) 2026’, scheduled to take place from 27–30 October 2026 in Makassar, where approximately 700 delegates from various regions and overseas are expected to attend.
During a meeting with the Mayor of Makassar, Munafri Arifuddin, in Makassar on Wednesday, the Indonesian Music Coordinator, Hardinansyah Putra Siji, stated that KMI 2026 is a national strategic programme designed to bring together music industry players and stakeholders from various regions in Indonesia as well as international delegates.
“Today’s discussion focused on the preparations for the Indonesian Music Conference, which will be held from 27 to 30 October. We presented these preparations to the Mayor. We hope the acceleration continues as this activity is fully supported by the Makassar City Government,” he said.
During the conference, approximately 20 discussion panels will be held, featuring speakers from various ministries, agencies, and Indonesian music industry professionals.
According to Ardy—the nickname for Hardinansyah—hosting KMI 2026 in Makassar serves as a vital momentum to strengthen the city’s position within the national music ecosystem.
He added that, in addition to the conference agenda, KMI 2026 will provide a platform for local Makassar musicians to build networks with music industry players at both national and international levels. The organising committee estimates that between 50 to 100 bands may attend as part of the delegation.
It was noted that from that number, eight local Makassar bands that have undergone a curation process will be given the opportunity to perform during the series of musical showcases.
He further added that the KMI 2026 activities will take place across two main locations.
“The conference agenda will be centred at the Hotel Claro Makassar, while the musical performances or showcases will be held every night in the Fort Rotterdam area,” said Ardy.
Beyond serving as a forum for exchanging ideas regarding the development of the music industry, the event is expected to open opportunities for collaboration, promotion, and networking for musicians and creative economy actors in Makassar.
