RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia and Mongolia strengthened their strategic partnership in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations through a Political Consultation Meeting held in Jakarta on Wednesday, 27 February 2026. The meeting was co-chaired by Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Arrmanatha C. Nasir and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, Amartuvshin Gombosuren.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on the development of bilateral relations, which continue to show a positive trend, as well as on the potential expansion of cooperation in various sectors, including strategic economy, defense, agriculture, education, health, people-to-people relations, tourism, and science and technology.
“The potential for cooperation between Indonesia and Mongolia remains vast. Increasing the engagement of business actors is key, including through memoranda of understanding between chambers of commerce as a bridge to expand trade, investment, and business partnerships,” Arrmanatha said.
In the agricultural sector, Indonesia is considered to have the capacity to support human resource development through sustainable agricultural training programs.
Meanwhile, in the field of education, cooperation has been strengthened through various Indonesian scholarship programs, including The Indonesian Aid Scholarship (TIAS), the Indonesian Arts and Culture Scholarship (BSBI), capacity-building training for Mongolian diplomats, as well as the Developing Countries Partnership Program.
The two countries also discussed global geopolitical developments and efforts to enhance collaboration in regional and multilateral forums. As a concrete step to strengthen foreign policy dialogue, both sides will explore the establishment of a Policy Planning Dialogue between their Ministries of Foreign Affairs to deepen strategic coordination and exchange views on Indo-Pacific dynamics and global issues.
Bilateral relations are also reinforced by the presence of the only Mongolian Cultural Center in Southeast Asia, located in Tanjung Lesung, Banten.
“Indonesia is proud to host this strategic meeting. We hope that the Indonesia–Mongolia partnership will continue to grow within a more comprehensive framework of cooperation, responsive to global challenges, and capable of delivering tangible benefits for the people of both countries,” Arrmanatha stated.
The meeting followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultation by the foreign ministers of both countries in Jakarta in May 2025, serving as a foundation for a more structured and sustainable bilateral dialogue architecture.
Bilateral relations between Indonesia and Mongolia continue to show a positive trend, particularly in trade. Total trade between the two countries in 2025 reached US$56 million, with Indonesia’s exports amounting to US$49.5 million and imports from Mongolia totaling US$6.5 million.
