A 70-year-old grandfather identified as GH is still suffering from trauma following an attempted kidnapping in the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area of North Jakarta. Police say the victim is now afraid to leave his house alone. “The victim is still traumatised and afraid to go out of the house alone,” said Kanit Reskrim of the Penjaringan Metro Police, AKP Sampson Sosa Hutapea, on Tuesday (16/6/2026). Sampson stated that the police are providing assistance to the victim. “From the beginning of the incident, the team has been assisting the victim during the investigation, and the Penjaringan Metro Police have increased patrols around the crime scene,” he said.

The attempted kidnapping occurred in May 2026 at around 6:55 a.m. local time. Based on the investigation, the victim was walking for exercise around his neighbourhood when a car approached him. A man got out of the vehicle and tried to force the grandfather into the car. The victim resisted, leading to a physical struggle that caused both men to fall onto the road. The victim’s screams for help caused the perpetrator to panic and flee the scene without succeeding in the abduction.

Police have since arrested and named two suspects, CW and FAP. According to the police, CW was the mastermind behind the attempted kidnapping, motivated by a grudge because his relationship with the victim’s child was not approved.
