70% of Indonesian Employees Not Ready to Implement AI
The widespread technological transformation makes the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) a necessity worldwide. AI is not only used on an industrial scale but can also be personalised according to company needs.
Unfortunately, based on research conducted by DataOn, more than 70% of employees are not ready to adopt AI, and only less than 30% are prepared to implement artificial intelligence in the workplace.
CEO of DataOn Indonesia, Gordon Enns, stated that the data indicates significant opportunities in AI adoption and the preparations that can be made. Companies wishing to adopt AI can prepare by enhancing their employees’ capabilities.
“Perhaps around 23 million people will need capability enhancement (reskilling) in the coming years due to the impact of AI technology. This must be recognised by company and business leaders in Indonesia, to take it more seriously in preparing (employee capabilities),” said Gordon Enns at the CNBC Indonesia Tech & Telco Forum 2026 on Wednesday (6/5/2026).
He continued that access to AI is already quite high, but capabilities are still lacking because adoption has not been carried out aggressively. Although AI adoption can be pursued aggressively, Gordon believes that the role of human resources remains important as the foundation of infrastructure in the digital economy era.
“The digital economy is the future, and human resources are equally important from the infrastructure perspective,” he explained.
Gordon stated that if Indonesia truly moves towards a digital economy, human resources play a vital role as a competitive advantage. Employees are not merely administrative functions for the company but also business partners.
“If companies do not realise this and do nothing to address it, they could fall and be left behind,” said Gordon.
