70.5 tonnes of maize seed distributed to 14 sub-districts in Bengkayang

A total of 70.5 tonnes of Hibrida Hebat R212 hybrid maize seed has been distributed to support planting on approximately 4,700 hectares of land spread across 14 sub-districts in Bengkayang Regency, West Kalimantan.

Head of the Bengkayang Regency Food Security and Agriculture Office, Yulianus, said the distributed seed had undergone testing and was declared to meet the requirements for distribution to farmers.

“The Hibrida Hebat R212 maize seed distributed amounts to 70.5 tonnes for approximately 4,700 hectares of land. The seed has been tested and passed inspection so that it can be distributed,” he said in Bengkayang on Thursday.

He said the distribution of the seed involved various parties, including the Bengkayang Police, who helped escort the transport vehicles to their destination areas.

According to him, the seed assistance is expected to be utilised optimally by farmer groups so that it can support increased maize productivity and the welfare of farmers in Bengkayang Regency.

Meanwhile, Bengkayang Police Chief AKBP Syahirul Awab said the escort of the seed distribution was a form of police support for the government’s food security programme.

“This is a form of government attention to farmers, particularly in Bengkayang Regency, in order to realise the government’s programme for food self-sufficiency and farmer welfare,” he said.

He stressed that the success of the food security programme requires synergy between the regional government, police, farmer groups, agricultural extension workers, and all stakeholders so that its implementation can take place sustainably.

In the distribution, 10 R6 trucks transported the maize seed to 14 sub-districts. All vehicles received security and escort from Bengkayang Police personnel to ensure the distribution process ran safely and smoothly.

The seed was subsequently handed over through Agricultural Extension Centres, Field Agricultural Extension Workers, and farmer groups in each recipient area.

Syahirul expressed hope that the seed assistance would be put to good use by farmers to increase maize production while strengthening regional food security and supporting the achievement of national food self-sufficiency.
