Eid al-Adha prayer at Garung Field in Dusun Garung, Butuh Village, Kalikajar District, Wonosobo Regency is once again a highly sought-after religious event for worshippers from various regions. It is more than just a congregational prayer; the site offers a unique worship experience amidst mountainous terrain with direct views of Mount Sumbing and Sindoro. This year’s Eid al-Adha prayer is scheduled for Wednesday, 27 May 2026. Rising enthusiasm has prompted organisers and the village government to urge worshippers to prepare thoroughly. According to Dzikroni, many worshippers come from outside the area each year to experience prayers on the mountain slopes, with some arriving well before the event date. Here are key considerations before heading to Garung Field. Worshippers aiming for a comfortable spot in the main field area are advised not to arrive close to prayer time, as the area is known to be extremely crowded. The field’s capacity is estimated at around 7,000 worshippers, yet previous years saw tens of thousands attend. Therefore, arriving around 3:00 AM WIB is a safer option, especially for those travelling from outside the area. “It usually gets busy from early morning, with many queuing for a spot in the field,” said Dzikroni during a meeting at Garung Field on Monday, 25 May 2026. Garung Field is the main venue, but not the only one. Organisers have prepared to extend the prayer area into surrounding roads if worshippers exceed the field’s capacity. “We will also prepare a 600-metre stretch of road to accommodate the surge in worshippers,” they said. One often overlooked aspect is the temperature. Situated in a highland area, the pre-dawn to morning air can be very cold, especially on clear days with strong mountain winds.
