Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The latest developments in the Middle East occurred on Thursday-Friday (8/6/2026). Tensions have resurfaced as Iran and the United States reportedly exchanged fire in the Strait of Hormuz.

- Iran’s Air Defence Activated Again in Tehran
Iranian television station IRIB reported that Iran’s air defence has been activated in western Tehran. The Mehr news agency also reported that Iran’s air defence “intercepted enemy targets”.
- Iran Claims US Violated Ceasefire
Iran’s central military command stated that the US violated the Middle East war ceasefire by attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran said they attacked US forces in retaliation.
“The US targeted an Iranian oil tanker moving from Iranian coastal waters in the Jask area towards the Strait of Hormuz, as well as another ship entering the Strait of Hormuz opposite Fujairah port in the UAE,” said Khatam Al Anbiya in a statement quoted by state television, accusing the US of also carrying out attacks elsewhere in the south “in cooperation with several countries in the region”.
“Iranian forces immediately and in retaliation attacked American military ships,” it added, as reported by AFP.
- Explosion in Iran’s Hormozgan Province
Iranian state television reported an explosion on an island in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday. The media said the explosion occurred during an “exchange of fire”.
“An explosion at the Bahman dock on Qeshm Island occurred during an exchange of fire between Iranian armed forces and the enemy,” reported IRIB television station.
Other Iranian news media also reported the explosion. Meanwhile, the Israeli military told AFP that they “were not aware of” the attack.
- Trump: Iranian Attacks are “Love Taps”
US President Donald Trump said the attacks on Iran were merely “love taps”. He expressed this in an ABC interview.
“The ceasefire is in place. It holds,” he said.
- US Ships Fired Upon
Trump said three US warships had just transited the Strait of Hormuz under Iranian fire. However, according to him, the US easily countered and downed the attack.
“Three world-class American destroyers just successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz under fire,” Trump said on social media.
“There was no damage to any of the three destroyers, but major damage occurred to the Iranian attackers,” he claimed.
He also said that “missiles were fired at our destroyers and easily shot down”. He added that drones were also “burned in the air” during the incident.
“Our three destroyers, with their outstanding crews, will now rejoin our naval blockade,” Trump said.
- Trump Threatens Further Attacks on Iran
Trump said on Thursday that US forces had inflicted “major damage” on Iranian targets after three US Navy destroyers were attacked. But, he said, the US remains open to a deal with Tehran.
“We will destroy them harder and more brutally in the future if they do not sign their deal, SOON!” Trump said.
- Is the Ceasefire Still in Effect?
Trump dismissed the US-Iran tensions on Thursday as disrupting the ceasefire. He described the events as “petty” and said he considers the ceasefire still in effect.
When asked by reporters if the Iran ceasefire still holds despite the attacks, Trump said “yes”. He also said Iran was “messing around with the US”.
“Yes, it still holds. They were messing with us today. We destroyed them. They were messing around. I call that petty,” he added.
