7 Homes Destroyed in Textile Waste Warehouse Fire in Gandamekar, Bekasi

A textile waste warehouse located in a densely populated residential area in Gandamekar, West Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, caught fire, destroying seven homes. ‘Seven houses burned,’ said Gandamekar Community Policing Officer Aiptu Giri to Detikcom on Sunday (31 May 2026). The fire broke out around 4.30pm WIB in the afternoon. Firefighters were immediately dispatched upon receiving the report. ‘Ten fire engines were deployed,’ Giri added. Giri confirmed no casualties from the incident, with firefighters still conducting cooling operations. ‘No casualties,’ he stressed. Detikcom’s observation at Jalan H Mad Boich Idris, Gandamekar, at 8.56pm WIB on Sunday (31 May 2026) showed the fire-affected area in a densely populated neighbourhood. Several vacant houses were completely destroyed, with some roofs collapsed. An acrid smell of burning filled the air. Soot-covered walls and a pitch-black, flooded scene surrounded the site. Some residents attempted to re-enter the darkened homes to check on their condition, while firefighters moved around with firefighting equipment. Fire engines arrived in quick succession, and onlookers gathered at the scene, occasionally documenting the incident. ‘Turn back, turn back,’ a man shouted, directing motorcyclists away from the fire zone.
