7 Facts about Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Being Caught in KPK Sting Operation
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) carried out a sting operation (OTT) in Tulungagung Regency, East Java. During the operation, Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo was secured along with several other parties.
The KPK is still investigating the case involving Gatut Sunu and the secured parties. Several facts have emerged, from the number of people arrested, the investigated case, to family members who were also secured in the operation.
- 16 People Secured, Including Tulungagung Regent
The KPK conducted the OTT in the Tulungagung area on Friday night (10/4). In the operation, a total of 16 people were secured, including Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo.
“Indeed, tonight the KPK is conducting a covert investigation activity in the East Java region. The team secured a number of 16 people, one of whom is the Tulungagung Regent,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Friday (10/4/2026).
The legal status of the parties will be determined after the examination is completed.
- Gatut Sunu Brought to KPK for Questioning
After being caught in the OTT, Gatut Sunu was immediately taken to the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Saturday morning (11/4). He arrived around 06:50 WIB for intensive examination by investigators.
“This morning, the team brought the Tulungagung Regent to Jakarta for further examination. The Regent arrived at the KPK Red and White Building around 06:50 WIB,” explained Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Saturday (11/4/2026).
The KPK also stated that other secured parties are still undergoing examination in Tulungagung before being brought to Jakarta for further processes.
- Total of 13 People Brought to KPK
The KPK then brought 13 people to Jakarta from the OTT in Tulungagung. Of that number, 12 are from the Tulungagung Regency Government environment and one from the private sector.
“The 13 people brought to Jakarta are the Regent, twelve people from the Tulungagung Regency Government environment, and one other party,” said Budi Prasetyo.
The parties were brought in three batches and immediately underwent examination at the KPK Red and White Building. The KPK has 1x24 hours to determine their legal status.
- KPK Seizes Cash as Evidence
In the sting operation, the KPK also seized several pieces of evidence in the form of cash. However, the amount of money secured has not been detailed by the investigators.
“In this activity, the team also secured evidence, including in the form of cash,” explained the KPK Spokesperson.
That evidence will be part of the ongoing case investigation handled by the KPK.
- Investigated Case Related to Extortion
The KPK revealed that the OTT ensnaring the Tulungagung Regent is related to an extortion case. This matter is still in the further investigation stage by investigators.
“(Regarding the case) Extortion,” said KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu to reporters on Saturday (11/4/2026).
The KPK is still delving into the roles of each party in the case before determining their legal status.
- Regent’s Brother Also Secured in OTT
In addition to Gatut Sunu, his younger brother was also secured in the sting operation. The Regent’s brother was at the same location when the OTT was conducted.
“Indeed (one of the other parties brought to Jakarta is the Regent’s brother Gatut),” said Budi Prasetyo.
The Regent’s brother was then brought to Jakarta along with the others for further examination.
- Regent’s Brother is a Member of Tulungagung DPRD
The KPK revealed that the Regent’s brother who was secured is Jatmiko Dwijo Saputro. He is known to be a member of the Tulungagung Regency DPRD.
“Indeed (Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo’s younger brother, Jatmiko Dwijo Saputro, as a Tulungagung DPRD member who was brought to Jakarta in the OTT),” clarified Budi Prasetyo when confirmed.
Currently, all secured parties are still undergoing examination at the KPK Red and White Building. The KPK will determine the legal status of the parties after the examination process is completed within 1x24 hours.
